I am sharing my pattern for this Crochet Santa Beanie today.  I was browsing Pinterest this morning and to my surprise, this photo was shared over 100 times in just a day after posting!  Looks like you like this little beanie of mine and that makes me feel so happy!  I’ve written up the pattern so you can make your own too!

This pattern is for a kid’s beanie, approximately 4-7 years old and works with “chunky” (weight 5 bulky) yarn.

Round 8-10: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 1 dc in each st until end of round. Sl st into top of first ch-3. (56 sts total)

If not adding ear flaps, tie off and weave in ends. If adding ear flaps, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Make Ear Flaps

Continue with White. Make first ear flap.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 1 dc in next 11 sts. (12 sts total)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dec 1 in next st, 1 dc in next 8 sts, dec 1 in next 2 sts (10 sts total)

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dec 1 in next st, 1 dc in next 6 sts, dec 1 in next 2 sts (8 sts total)

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dec 1 in next st, 1 dc in next 4 sts, dec 1 in next 2 sts (6 sts total)

For second ear flap, repeat Rows 1 through 4 again on direct opposite side of beanie. Fold beanie in half to find starting point.   Once done with Row 4 on second ear flap, do not tie off.

Ch 1, 1 sc in each st all around bottom of edge of beanie to finish off. Tie off and weave in ends.

Step 3: Make Pom-Pom

Use white. Pom-pom is approximately 2½” to 3½” based on your preference.

  1. Wrap yarn around hand approximately 20 times and remove from hand.
  2. Use 8” yarn piece to tie a secure knot in the middle.
  3. Cut all ends to create pom-pom.
  4. Ends will be uneven. Trim down to size.
