Little Pumpkin Beanie – Free Crochet Pattern

This pattern is size 6M to 12M, and uses front post double crochets (fpdc), double crochets (dc), single crochets (sc), and slip stitch (sl st).  It works in rounds to form the beanie.  It has 5 components:  beanie, stem, leaf, vine, and flower.

Use light weight yarn (weight 3 “light”) in pumpkin orange, soft green, and soft white; and Hook Size H:

Beanie

Using orange yarn, start a magic ring.

Round 1:  Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 15 dc into magic ring and tighten the loop closed.  Continue on to Round 2.

Round 2:  1 fpdc in every dc (15 sts)

Round 3:  1 fpdc in fpdc from previous round below, 1 dc in next sp.  Repeat [1 fpdc, 1 dc], for a total 30 sts.

Round 4:  1 fpdc in fpdc from previous round below, 2 dc in next sp.  Repeat [1 fpdc, 2 dc] for a total of 45 sts.

Rounds 5-17:  1 fpdc in fpdc from previous round below, 3 dc in next sp.  Repeat [1 fpdc, 3 dc] for a total of 60 sts each round.  Sl st into next st.

Scallop Edge:  *Sk next st, 6 dc into next st, sk next st, sl st into next* Repeat * all around beanie.  You should end up with 16 cute little scallops.  (See photo below.)

Stem, Leaf, & Vine

Stem

(Note:  Stem also worked in rounds) Using Green Yarn, Ch 2

Round 1:  4 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (4 sts total)

Round 2-4:  sc in each of the next 4 sts.  (4 sts total in each round)

Round 5:  2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next; twice.  (6 sts total)

Round 6:  1 sc in next 6 sts. (6 sts total)

Round 7:  Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in the next 5 sts. Sl st to beg ch-3.  (12 sts total)

Leaf

Using Green, Ch 7.

Row 1:  sc in 2nd chain from hook, 1 sc in next 5 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  Ch 3, tr in the same st, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in the next 2 sts, 3 sc in last st, turn. Working back the other side, 1 hdc in the next 2 sts, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, 1 tr in the next st, then ch 3 and sl st to last st. Do not tie off.  Continue to crochet vine.

Vine

Ch 30, turn.  2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in each st thereafter all the way back down to the leave.  Twirl the vine with your finger to help it curl in a pretty way.

Flower

Make a magic ring, crochet these sts into ring:  [sc, 4 tr] 5 times (5 petals).  Then tighten the loop to form the pretty flower.  Sl st to beg sc and tie off.

Sew all four components (stem, leaf, vine, and flower) to beanie and you’re done!  😊✨
