How to Install Snap Buttons + Sewing Tutorial, Dritz Anorak Snaps & Tools Kit, 12mm Snaps, Sewing hardware, brass buttons

Here’s a tutorial on how to install snap buttons.  The tool set shown is called Mini Anorak Snaps & Tools Kit by Dritz.  The snap button size is 12mm and can be found at any craft store or online.  The package instructions can be confusing so I made this tutorial as an added visual on how to install the hardware onto your projects.  I hope you find this helpful.  🤓✨

In addition to the snaps kit, you will also need:

It is very helpful to lay out your hardware pieces and label them by these letters.  The upper case letters pair together with the lower case letters.

Use your fabric marking pen to mark where the snaps are going to be installed.

Insert your seam ripper and CAREFULLY rip a small hole, just large enough for the hardware to be inserted.

These are the tools you need for the UPPER snap.  Insert these parts into the plastic tool kit and use a hammer to tap the top of the plastic tool.  It doesn’t take much force to install.  If you hit too hard, you flatten the (a) piece and it doesn’t have a pretty round top anymore.  (Live and learn… 😞)

Repeat the process for the lower part.  Fold over the top and get a really good estimate of where the lower snaps need to go.

Round 2:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next 5 sts, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in last 2 sts.  Sl st to beg ch-2.  (30 sts total)

Lace Cuff

Round 12-13:  Change to cream color yarn, 1 hdc in each st all around (26 sts total)

  • Stephanie - Thank you so much for this pattern!! I have made several pairs, and will be making many more. I include them in baby layettes that we send to our hospital in Mali, the Koutiala Women and Children’s Hospital. Each baby born is clothed in lovingly made hat, booties and a onesie and wrapped in a blanket to go home in. This hospital is helping lower the infant mortality rate, as well as the number of mothers who die in childbirth or from complications after birth. It is also spreading the love of Christ in Mali.
About the pattern—I have tried to make booties with soles so many times, and they end up looking like Herman Munsters baby shoes! Your pattern is easy to follow, and they always turn out so cute!!! Thanks again!!!April 5, 2017 – 2:06 pmReplyCancel

Hello friends!  I’m back today with another baby shoes pattern for all of you!  As I said in yesterday’s post, I don’t know what’s gotten into me!  I can’t help but continue to make more and more little baby shoes.  I’m making so many to the point where I don’t even know what I’m going to do with all of them!  The baby in our house can only wear so many shoes at a time…

So, these little shoes are similar to my previous pattern but I’ve added a pop of color to them – just for fun!  Below is the pattern and tutorial for you to follow.

Materials

Shoe Sole

Round 1:  Using neon color yarn, Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next 7 chs, then 5 sc in last ch.  Working back from the other side of your chain, 1 sc in next 7 chs, 2 sc in last ch.  Sl st to beg sc.  (22 sts total)

Round 2:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next 5 sts, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in last 2 sts.  Sl st to beg ch-2.  (30 sts total)

Round 3:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 12 sts, 2 hdc in next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next 12 sts, 2 hdc in last 2 sts.  Sl st to beg ch-2.  (36 sts total)  Tie off and weave in ends.

Shoe Sides and Toe

Now you will start to work in actual rounds, as in, you will no longer sl st at the end of each row and begin a new row.  Once you come to the end of a round, you will make your next st ON TOP of the st from the previous round in a continuous manner.  It is helpful to use a stitch marker to help you mark the beginning of each round.  For me, I use a safety pin!

Round 4:  Change to grey yarn, Ch 2, 1 hdc all around.  (36 sts total)

Round 5:  1 hdc in each st all around (36 sts total)

Round 6:  1 hdc in next 12 sts, dc2tog 6 times, 1 hdc in last 12 sts (30 sts total)

Round 7:  1 sc in next 12 sts, dc2tog 4 times, 1 sc in last 11 sts.  (28 sts total)  Tie off and weave in ends.

Trim the Shoe

Round 8:  Change back to neon color and work in back loops only.  Sl st into each back loop st all around.  Tie off and weave in ends.

Bow:  Use the same color yarn to tie a simple bow to the top of the shoe.  You’re done!  Yay!

Here are some more photos of the shoes in different colors.
