Crochet Granny Square Tutorial

Hi Friends,

I’ve written up a free tutorial on how to make a granny square.

Foundation Ring:  Ch5, sl st into first ch to form ring

Round 1:  Ch3, 2dc in ring, ch3, 2 dc into ring, *3dc into ring, ch3.* Rep * 2 more times. Sl st into top of first ch3.

Round 2:  Ch3, *3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 3dc into same ch-3 sp.* Rep * 2 more times.  3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 2dc into same ch-3 sp, sl st to top of first ch3.  Fasten off.

Round 3:  Change colors.  Begin from sp between two groups of 3dc.  Ch3, *3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 3dc into same ch-3 sp, 3dc in next sp.*  Rep * 2 more times, 3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 3dc into same ch-3 sp, 2dc in next sp, sl st to top of ch3.  Fasten off.

Round 4:  Change colors.  Begin from sp between two groups of 3dc.  Ch3, *3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 3dc into same ch-3 sp, 3dc in next sp, 3dc in next sp*  Rep * 2 more times, 3dc into next ch-3 sp, ch3, 3dc into same ch-3 sp, 2dc in next sp, sl st to top of ch3.  Fasten off.

You’re finished!  Ta-da!  You’ve completed one crochet granny square!

Make a few more to create a bunting banner or garland.  Make a whole lot more to create a granny blanket!
