She invited Logan and I over for dinner last week at her cute little house and I want to thank her for that.  It’s terrible that it’s taken me a week to send a “thank you” gift, but handmade gifts take time, right?  I hope she likes these little crocheted coasters I made for her.  (I’m sharing this pattern with you below!)  As a fellow crafter, I know she will fully appreciate handmade gifts and the sentiment that goes along with it.

Here’s the pattern so you can make them too!  I used 100% cotton yarns for these, Crochet Hook Size H.

Start:  Ch 5, sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Round 1:  Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 9 dc into ring, sl st into top of first dc.

Round 2:  Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc2tog in same st.  *Ch 2, dc3tog in next st.*  Repeat the * all around in each dc from Round 1.  Sl st into top of beg ch 3.  (9 groups of 3 dc’s total in this round)

Round 3:  Sl st into ch-2 space from Round 2, Ch 5 (counts as first dc and 3 ch’s).  Dc in same ch-2 sp, hdc in next st, dc in next st, ch 3.  *Dc in next ch-2 sp, hdc in next st, dc in next st, ch 3.*  Repeat the * all around.  Sl st into third ch of first ch-5 at the beg of round.

Round 4:  *sc, 5 dc, sc*  Work the * into each ch-3 sp from Round 3 all around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Tie off and weave in ends.  Done and enjoy!

My little niece finally arrived and she just has the sweetest little face!  Her name is Kayla and I simply could not wait to get started on a baby quilt for her.  I wanted a design that was simple, yet very feminine.  I decided on a strip quilt and what’s more feminine than my all-time favorite type of fabric?  Florals.  All florals!  This particular fabric line is by Tanya Whelan and it is perfect.  It was made for Free Spirit Fabrics.  You can get a whole delicious bundle of your own here:  Tanya Whelan Scrappy Fabric Bundle – Shabby Chic Fat Quarters

Although this is a very simple and basic strip quilt, the order that the strips are placed in must be strategic.  I could use all the help I can get.  That’s where the cats come in.

Pretty light blue gingham for the binding.  You can never go wrong with gingham!

Here’s a peek at the back of the quilt.  A gorgeous rosey fabric for the backing.  It’s also by the same fabric designer.

I couldn’t wait to get baby Kayla on it!  However, I tried so many poses before I could get a cute capture.  I realize my baby photo taking skills are not as honed in as my cat photo taking skills.  But I’ll get better at it in time.

Gather the diaper rolls onto a cake pedestal so they sit neatly together.  If you’re not using a cake pedestal, use a nice decorative plate.

You can get tulle at any fabric shop.  At Joanns Fabric, it’s $1.49/yard, cheaper if you have a coupon!  It’s affordable and awesome!

How to Make a Tutu for Girls Tutorial-2Cut each color of tulle into 8″ by 2″ strips.  I used 16 strips for each color.

How to Make a Tutu for Girls Tutorial-3Stack 3 strips of tulle (one of each color) and fold in half.  Slip knot onto the ribbon.  Push the tulle together to create more fluff.  Repeat the process until you have reached the length desired for your baby, then tie a pretty bow to finish.

I tied the tutu I made around a diaper cake tower as a gift to my new baby niece!
