Crochet Cat Bed – Super Chunky Yarn – Free Pattern!

I recently discovered this super chunky yarn and I’m addicted! First thing I made was this sweet little gift for my kitty. It’s pretty easy. It’s a basic pattern for a crochet bowl. Under normal circumstances using normal weight yarn, it would be a small crochet bowl. But with super big chunky yarn? It’s a giant bowl! Or, an awesome cat bed! I’m happy to share this pattern with you today so you can give it a try!

Materials Used

Super Big Chunky Yarn – Jumbo Weight 7 – That’s big!  (approximately 32oz for 1 bed)

Crochet Hook – 30mm (or use your hands as a hook. But I found it much easier to use a tool and my gauge was more consistent.)

Crochet Pattern

This crochet pattern works in rounds, not rows. This means you continue to build on top of the previous row without stopping.

Make a magic ring
Round 1: sc 6 into ring, pull tail to tighten ring (6 sts)
Round 2: 2sc in each st (12 sts)
Round 3: <1sc, 2sc in next>, 5 times (18 sts)
Round 4: <1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next>, 6 times (24 sts)
Round 5-6: 1 sc in each st (24 sts), sl st in final st.
Tie off and weave in ends.

You’re done! But….

Hope your little kitty cats are comfy-cozy in these cat beds! It took my kitties a couple days to not be afraid of it. But once they tried it, they don’t leave…. they’re pretty much lazier than ever! ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Have you tried this pattern? Let me know what you think! Do your cats love it?

  • HLC - Thanks for the pattern! I made this for my cat and I lined it with faux fur yarn. It’s lovely but the cat won’t touch it because I mistakenly told her it was for her. If I can get our 100 pound dog to use it as a pillow, I might have a shot at changing her mind.September 6, 2021 – 2:43 pmReplyCancel
